Steve at work. |
I have been working as a painter and decorator for over 25 years covering all areas of the trade. Early in my career I was fortunate enough to be taught Graining and Marbling techniques by the late Bill Holgate. Over the years I have developed my skills and now specialise in graining and marbling, trompe l'oeil and broken colour paint effects.
I am recommended by J H Ratcliffe & Co. (Tor Coatings), manufactures of graining scumbles and glazes, and I have demonstrated decorative techniques and paint effects using their products at numerous trade shows.´
I have achieved very high standards in the industry, working throughout the country and abroad. In 1996 I worked alongside Bill Holgate in the Middle East on a large marbling project for Alarabi Decoration in Saudi Arabia .
More recently I worked on the restoration of St George's Hall in Liverpool marbling lapis lazuli panels in the courtroom and graining softwood doors to match oak doors. I was filmed by the BBC North West Tonight news programme in the process of graining doors. The Hall was opened on the 23 April 2007 by Prince Charles and was at the centre of the 2008 European City of Culture celebrations.
From preparation to applying paints to produce high quality finishes, to wall papering and specialist finishes I always aim to achieve the best possible quality of work and finish for all my customers.
Graining and marbling is the art of, creating realistic imitations of wood grains and marbles using scumbles , glazes, paints and specialist tools. The range of my work includes:
